ABSTRACT

In 2010, there were more than ten million undocumented migrants in the United States (U.S. Department of Homeland Security 2011). The presence of large numbers of people who do not have the legal right to be in this country presents a variety of challenges. People in the United States are divided over how to solve the problem of undocumented migration. Some argue that all undocumented migrants are criminals and should be punished for their illegal activity. Others contend that undocumented migrants are simply people who have been unable to legalize their immigration status and should be given the opportunity to do so.
