ABSTRACT

All of America’s earliest presidents, except for John Adams, the second chief executive, were slave owners. This, of course, contradicted the ideals of freedom and human rights that supposedly shaped the new nation. It was also a massive hypocrisy for the founders to proclaim their right to rebel from England while at the same time denying independence to their slaves.
