ABSTRACT

Ethics is especially important for its connection with all kinds of learning. It can be related to most every subject taught: science, social studies, humanities, history, reading, and writing. Ethics is more fully understood if it stands out as the fundamental glue that holds a community together-allowing all other learning to make better sense. To signify this importance, we concluded our ethics course with the creation of an art exhibit. Students, teachers, art teachers, artists, parents, and other members of the community collaborated in making paintings and objects while transforming ideas, definitions of ethics, and essays into a visual presentation that was installed at the High Point and Infusion cafés, two local coffee houses. The ethics exhibit, with the visual enhancing the written, was celebrated twice, with six weeks of community dialogue altogether. The students demonstrated their pride in the hard work they accomplished.
