ABSTRACT

Jerome ( Jerry) Allender (University of Chicago, 1962) has been engaged in educational research for over fifty years. His focus is on humanistic education, and most recently he coauthored, with Donna, The Humanistic Teacher: First the Child, Then Curriculum. For many years, he was the chairperson of the Psychoeducational Processes Department at Temple University, where he developed the Arts and Science of Teaching course for both undergraduate and graduate students. With his Temple student teachers, he taught children from kindergarten through junior high at Project Learn School. Since his retirement, he has continued to work with Project Learn teachers and students and devotes more time than ever to playing his trumpet at local cafes.
