ABSTRACT

The administration and the corporate Democratic Party have faced minimal pressure from progressive forces, which have been predictably ignored by centers of power. In March 2010, Obama betrayed a campaign pledge and disregarded irrelevant progressive environmentalists by announcing that Obama planned to allow environmentally disastrous oil exploration and drilling in vast new offshore areas along the southeastern United States and Alaska. Dejected organizers reported difficulty getting significant numbers of people to turn out against a White House that was perceived as left and antiwar. The ominous resurgence of the American right, whose leading political symbols and agents and movements absurdly accuse the state-capitalist Obama of socialism and other radical leftist apostasies, technically contradicts a plethora of public opinion data showing that most Americans hold left-of-center attitudes on key foreign and domestic policy issues. Liberal Democrats aren't going to tell the average American, being shafted because of the policies that people's established over the years that people's are maintaining now.
