ABSTRACT
Our next stop is 1993—just a year after the world’s largest-ever environmental summit was held in Rio de Janeiro. That so-called Earth Summit, officially the UN Conference on Environment and Development, was treated by many pundits and much of the media as a catalytic moment in global environmental awareness, as an event that reflected the awakening of the world to the fragile state of our planet.
