ABSTRACT

Michelle, age nineteen, is a college student. She has several hundred friends and tries to find time to socialize with as many of them as she can on a daily basis. Her parents wonder how she can possibly find time to mingle with so many friends and keep up with her studies. Michelle’s parents are from the phone book generation; Michelle belongs to the Facebook generation. For any readers who have not heard, Facebook, an online social-mixer site designed for young people, gives users the opportunity to maintain a large number of friendships. However, the name Facebook is a little misleading, as most of Michelle’s several hundred friends are not face-to-face relationships but rather virtual ones.
