ABSTRACT
If you are like most students, you have attended at least one wedding ceremony in your life. Although marriage customs around the world vary a great deal (see Chapter 10), most wedding ceremonies are relatively traditional, or “normal.” However, it is not unusual to hear of wedding ceremonies that fall outside the norm, such as underwater ceremonies, skydiving marriages, or couples who have married while riding a Ferris wheel or rollercoaster. Think of the weddings you have attended. Were any of these ceremonies what you might call “deviant”?
