ABSTRACT

Our work at the local ended in 1998. Suzan left the union in 2000, just as a “realignment” based on industry was occurring. In the ensuing months, in the stated interest of building worker power by industry, the international union would portion off the membership of large chunks of various Metropolis locals to other locals with little more than cosmetic votes by their handpicked ten- to twentymember executive boards and negotiations with some noisy and distrusting activists.
