Since the Black Power movement of more than two decades ago, the dialogue between white and black intellectuals and activists on theories of social change has been at best fragmentary, and at times, nonexistent. The racial bifurcation of protest movements in the sixties and seventies created a bitter political impasse. The result: a chasm of silence.
