ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 assesses water quality performance in the comparative sites examined in Chapter 9. Results show that the impervious cover percentage in The Woodlands was more than double that of Houston communities. Conversely, nutrient loadings (NO3 -N, NH3 -N, and TP) from Houston communities were significantly associated with their impervious cover percentages on an annual basis. In contrast, there was little such correlation in The Woodlands, with overall lower nutrient loadings. This chapter suggests that McHarg’s integrated ecological planning strategies are effective in maintaining stormwater quality at watershed-scale community development.
