ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 presents a comparative analysis on precipitation and streamflow in three adjacent communities. All three communities started land development in the 1970s, whereas their development approaches differed. The Woodlands followed McHarg’s ecological approach, whereas the comparative Houston communities used the conventional approach. Precipitation and streamflow correlations were examined based on historical data. Results show that The Woodlands consistently presents lower precipitation–runoff correlations than do Houston communities. This finding strongly demonstrates a flood-resilience situation as a result of McHarg’s ecological planning approach.
