ABSTRACT
As January comes to an end, the confidence and independence of the children is striking. This chapter describes the changes that have taken place in Giraffe class as a result of the new organisation indoors and aims to look at the stage and music area outdoors. Giraffe class has been designated as the ‘creative/art and design’ room, although each room still retains the basic mark-making equipment. The staff have seen how confident and independent the children are and so have decided to allow them to free-flow into all the classrooms. In an effort to further increase the independence of the children, the staff are allocating ‘monitors’ for each class –ensuring that every child has a turn in this role. The chapter provides some examples of the learning from Giraffe class as well as a snapshot of the continuing exciting learning outdoors.
