ABSTRACT

The children had just three weeks in school in April. The approach to the focus children has also been amended to fit with the new structures. However, the children still have autonomy and control of their own learning for more than half of the hours in the day. In order to monitor the uptake, the children have been given a laminated number line to keep in their money bag and this is hole-punched each time they complete a challenge. For the focus children, they are paying particular attention to their literacy and numeracy activities, in order to be able to complete a ‘report’ sheet at the end of the week. With rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks, chickens, worms, mice, mini-beasts and pond-life, the children in Year One are constantly aware of the animals and their needs.
