ABSTRACT

Manipur's Second World War experience, centred on the Battle of Imphal of 1944, makes for a fascinating story, and one which connects the place with many countries around the world. The narrative is made all the more compelling by what is on offer: the battlefields, trenches, bunkers, war memorials and museums; the culture and traditions of its people; together with the scenic beauty of the place; and its agreeable climate. Indeed, Manipur has all the makings of an excellent Second World War battlefield tourism destination, not just for India but also in the wider Asian and international context.
