ABSTRACT

Continues the discussion of family dynamics in eating disorders by examining characteristics associated with the Chaotic Family. This family type is the one most commonly identified by women in the study and therefore is the focus of nearly the entire chapter. This is followed by a section on general observations about the family typologies in relationship to anorexia (and bulimia). One observation includes the varieties of characteristics and interactional dynamics that the typology displays, suggesting daughters who have eating disorders are not all the same. As such, a qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) is included here that identifies specific characteristics and combinations of conditions that result in eating disorders.
