ABSTRACT

Russian Revolution is the collective term for a pair of revolutions in Russia in 1917, which dismantled the Tsarist autocracy and led to the eventual rise of the Soviet Union. Kerensky desired to strengthen his support by introducing a number of socialists, with the result that early in May 1917 a Coalition Government was formed by taking in three members representing the Petrograd Soviet, one of these members being a Menshevik, and the other two socialist-revolutionaries. On the side of the Provisional Government there was also a movement in the same direction. In April 1917, about one month after the March Revolution, the members of the Soviet began to talk about a Coalition Government, that is, a government in which there should be a larger socialist representation, Kerensky being the only socialist member of the existing Cabinet. The peasants resented this measure and resented also any interference of the Government with their arbitrary seizures.
