ABSTRACT

Russian Revolution is the collective term for a pair of revolutions in Russia in 1917, which dismantled the Tsarist autocracy and led to the eventual rise of the Soviet Union. In the middle of June the Bolshevik faction determined to press their opposition to the Provisional Government and to acquire dominant influence in the Petrograd Soviet. The Luga Soviet of soldiers' deputies had four representatives in the Petrograd Soviet, and in addition two representatives in the Petrograd executive committee. The Bolsheviks repudiated violent intentions, but they were not trusted by the other parties. Groups of members were sent to the units of the garrison to make sure that there would be no armed demonstration. Miliukov attaches blame to Albert Thomas and Arthur Henderson for their encouragement of Bolshevism. Each was sent by his Government to Petrograd in order to bring a Labour cabinet minister into relations with the Russian Revolutionary Government.
