ABSTRACT

In the research literature two different positions have been posited—that the selection of measurement must come before selection of the sample, and the other that the selection of the sample must come before selection of the measurement. An operational definition the attribute in terms of the way it is measured—the measurement itself. The operational definition must be justifiable to others and follow a logical path from construct to measurement. The word to always remember with ordinal level of measurement is rank. Ordinal measurement results in ranking things with respect to some particular quality. Classic interval measurements social worker is well aware of are IQ, self-esteem scales, depression scales, prejudice scales and many many more. In ratio level of measurement all values on the variable are equidistant from each other and there is a known zero point. Concurrent validity is when the new measurement is tested against other known measures at the same time.
