ABSTRACT

A satisfactory answer to this question can only be given at the end of the entire book; for the time being we shall have to make do with a first approximate definition, which we shall try to perfect as we move forward. The principal difficulty in explaining what cognitive science really is consists in the recursiveness which ties it to artificial intelligence, in as much as the latter is both part of cognitive science (the definiendum), and part of the criteria which define cognitive science itself (the definiens).
