ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests as a starting point some economic and environmental reforms as well as indicators for evaluating the degree to which the new economy is achieving goals consistent with the new philosophy. Comprehensive finance industry reform would interrelate with reform of the current rules and institutions pertaining to globalization that have proven harmful to many working class Americans while providing tax havens and more incentives to invest individual wealth and corporate profits overseas, while avoiding paying taxes in the United States. The EPAs credibility has come under scrutiny partly due to the appearance that the agency has been influenced by the oil and gas nexus. Community support that would promote local agriculture and community development would include subsidies for local and organic fruit, vegetable and livestock production as well as for a conventional farm to transition into an integrated farm.
