ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at how bags, boxes and cardboard tubes can be used to help children's communication and language, maths and vocabulary creativity. Paper bags have been an American staple since they were invented there in the late 1800s, and are now widely used throughout the world. In addition to carrying groceries and packing lunches, there are many useful things you can do with a paper bag. Its strong and sturdy construction makes a paper bag perfect for present-wrapping. Cardboard tubes can be found in many guises: long, short, wide, narrow, for domestic and industrial use. Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations. Using puppets is one way of allowing children to express them effectively, beginning to show awareness of their listeners needs.
