ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses what may become criminology moving forward and some promising areas of theoretical development. The current foundation for biosocial criminology is strong and appears to offer a building ground for future biosocial research on a variety of important topics. As the United States and other nations move into the future, and as government funding for violence prevention and intervention waxes and wanes, there will likely be more efforts to merge research with policy. The future of criminology may be to evaluate and add empirical research to efforts that seek to scale up crime prevention efforts for maximum effect. Interestingly, terrorism has been somewhat ignored in criminology, attracting more interest from political scientists and international scholars. This appears to be changing of late, especially with the work of a handful of prominent criminologists.
