ABSTRACT
This chapter begins by examining fertility patterns in the United States and discusses why couples decide to have a child or not. It examines how couples can prevent pregnancy and handle an unwanted pregnancy. The chapter then explores how couples deal with infertility and prepare for adoption or for a child when they are pregnant. From a diversity and global perspective, the chapter examines childless families and provides a global view of sex selection across countries.
