ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 examines diverse American families from the Colonial Era to today. It begins by examining Native American, early European, and slave families in Colonial America. It then explores the changes in marriage patterns and family life from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century. Next, the chapter examines family life along the lines of social class. Taking a diversity and global approach, Chapter 3 also discusses immigrant families as well as global families.
