ABSTRACT
Capacity for friendship varies like capacity for love, although this is a fact which some people are slow to recognise. The fact is that there are people who have little capacity for love, just as there are people with little capacity for other things; but this does not prove that the greater capacity is exaggerated or unreal. Most friendships probably begin with the mysterious attraction which draws men and women to one human being out of many, which it is difficult, almost impossible, to define, but which is none the less real. Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics, Book VIII. Says that while love is a feeling, friendship is a habit or trained faculty, and that it is so because it implies purpose, the intention to love. But true admiration means the recognition of high qualities, especially of character, and such recognition and appreciation necessarily lead to the friendship for the sake of good, the enduring friendship, which Aristotle praises.
