ABSTRACT

The learning outcome is specifically designed to test our knowledge of the various laws and documents relating to electrical equipment maintenance. There are a number of areas within the IET Code of Practice that provide information relating to the learning outcome. The IET Code of Practice lists and gives some information on the key statutory documents relating to portable appliance testing and expands on areas such as scope, responsibility and maintenance. This chapter presents seven assessment criteria for portable appliance testing. The assessment criteria includes specifying the requirements of statutory and non-statutory acts and regulations in relation to maintenance of electrical equipment, identifying premises to which the Acts and regulations apply, explaining the legal requirement to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition and identifying the guidance given by the Health and Safety Executive relating to electrical equipment. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) produce a wide range of guidance on all health and safety topics.
