ABSTRACT

Lameece Issaq’s play, Food and Fadwa, co-written with Jacob Kader, received its World Premiere production at New York Theatre Workshop in 2012 (also a recipient of a 2011 Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award). Her other plays include: “A” Date, Samia’s Cup, Neighborhood Nightly News (The New York Arab American Comedy Festival); Nooha’s List, part of Motherhood Out Loud (Hartford Stage, The Geffen and Primary Stages). Lameece is the Artistic Director of the Obie Award-winning Noor Theatre, a company dedicated to supporting, developing, and presenting the work of theatre artists of Middle Eastern descent. As an actor, Lameece has appeared in her own play Food and Fadwa at New York Theatre Workshop, as well as in The Fever Chart, The Public Theater; The Black Eyed , New York Theatre Workshop; Girl Blog From Iraq: Baghdad Burning, Barrow Street Theater/Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Stage Theater Award Nomination, Outstanding Ensemble); and Stuff Happens, The Public Theater (Drama Desk Award, Outstanding Ensemble). Issaq holds an MFA from the University of Texas, Austin. She is also a member of the League of Professional Theatre Women, The Dramatists Guild, AEA and is a 2016 NYFA Finalist in Playwriting. Lameece is currently co-writing the film Abraham with Jacob Kader.
