ABSTRACT

Ki is in the core of Dahnhak's practice and theory. From a cosmological perspective, Dahnhak assumes that ki is the basic element of the universe in accordance with the traditional East Asian perspective. Doin exercise is a series of bodily exercises that help the bodymind to relax both prior to commencing other exercises such as Haenggong and Jigam exercise and after those exercises coming out of a deep meditational condition of the bodymind. Dahnhak Doin exercise consists of movements such as shaking, tapping, rotating, stretching, twisting, rubbing and stroking. In terms of concentration, Dahnhak requires a specific quality as an optimal state of mind, that is, 'relaxed concentration'. Dahnhak introduces several intensive trainings and programmes besides the regular practice. The Doin exercise works with the bodily movements and it is used as a preparatory exercise by being structurally located at the beginning of a Dahnhak training session.
