ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a closer look at SSBS and how it relates to the workplace and employee outcomes and practices. This is the first of six functional chapters of the book where students can explore their future roles as business leaders and how these can impact SSBS and its goals. Human resource management (HRM) practices are discussed in terms of how these would need to meet workers’ human rights under an SSBS system and also in terms of how HRM practices can motivate and drive employees towards engaging in socially sustainable practices. The role of the labor movement in achieving SSBS is also discussed in detail. The final section of the chapter discusses the role of labor policy and legislation to achieve SSBS.
