ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the possibilities of leading people and organizations into a socially sustainable future. Socially sustainable leadership requires leaders to influence followers to accomplish sustainable objectives while treating followers with dignity and respect. In the first several sections of the chapter, three categories of leadership taught across today’s business schools are introduced. For each category, a path to Socially Sustainable Leadership will be suggested. In the final sections of this chapter, two current theories of leadership that have significant potential to promote Socially Sustainable Leadership are presented.
