ABSTRACT

[Abstract: This chapter synthesizes evidence from the preceding six chapters. It identifies seven major intervals of technological change during the Pleistocene. Some of these represent thresholds, periods of fundamental transformation, whereas others are the cumulation of much more gradual processes. The causes and evolutionary implications of these various development are explored. The chapter concludes with a broader discussion of the changing role of technology in hominin life over the course of the Pleistocene as well as the implications of global diversity in large scale trends.]
