ABSTRACT

With increasing numbers of women returning to work post maternity, fathers taking shared parental leave, same-sex parenting and adoption, the transition associated with leaving work and subsequent collision of career and parenting the author knows it is not confined to one or two individuals. The story is repeated time in and time out, and if the author takes a moment to notice, it is happening in front of us right now. It is a story of change, of multiple endings and new beginnings, new experiences, questions, choices, challenges and at the heart a new life. Employees will continue to become parents, our challenge as employers is to engage in that journey, using the talent and experience from within the organisation, supporting the transition to working parenthood and, in doing so, ultimately the organisation becomes supported too.
