ABSTRACT

The monitoring and measurement processes produce data, and these need to be turned into information and the information studied to figure out if what is being produced or provided is okay and if not what to do about it. This is the purpose of the analysis and evaluation processes. This chapter examines the seven requirements of clause 9.1.3, namely: evaluating product and service conformity; evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the QMS; evaluating implementation of planning; evaluating effectiveness of actions to address risks and opportunities; evaluating performance of external provider; and evaluating the need for improvements to the QMS. The performance of the QMS (what it does) is determined from monitoring, measurement and analysis, whereas the effectiveness of the QMS (the extent to which what it does is what it is intended to do) is determined from evaluation of the results of the analysis.
