ABSTRACT

Social innovation provides means and possibilities to operate in the space in ways that government cannot, bringing policies to life and adapting the way they impact on specific communities that have needs or preferences that government has not been able to take into account. The developing role for the research community is the definition of data frameworks to monitor and guide social innovation at the macro-level, and also at the level of specific domains of innovation, such as health or education. At the meso-level, Jenson and Harrisson have proposed the concept of the "platform organization", and note that little investigation seems to have been done on this type of organization, from the point of view of how they operate and the different ways in which they integrate or relate to design catalysts or things. "Collective Impact" approaches to social innovation have become very popular with governments and some funders.
