ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some basic concepts that every business reporter and editor should know, beginning with how the business journalist does his or her job. Business reporting and editing is just like any other beat at a newspaper, a television or radio station, or even an Internet site. Business reporting also requires knowing something about how business operates, much like the school reporter needs to know how the school board works and when it meets. In many ways, the success of public companies and private companies are intertwined. If there is a business relationship, a company will want its business partner to succeed.
