ABSTRACT

My dear Jack Your letter of the 8th, recd here mid-day today, explains clearly your main point; namely, that you are handicapped with Hygiene & Margaret Shaen in excelsis! but you did not answer my details. Is the fi replace to burn wood[,] peat or coal? A coal-fi re must be kept within an opening not exceeding my usual ones – of which you probably have the dimensions. If of wood or peat the opening may be wider: but you give me a settled dimension in width, of 4’9”, and that is too wide even for wood! If it is supposed to put some kind of f.p. within this dimension, that is another thing; but whose affair is it of the canted “big stones”?
