ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers a scholarly detox. It is written specifically for people, the doctoral researcher and for those times when people are likely to feel out of sorts, bloated and out of shape. The book asks one to stop doing things they usually do, just for a little while, and reflect. It intends to be a companionable workbook - something that one can use throughout the doctorate when they feel the need to stop and examine what they are doing. The book wants people to ask questions about their taken-for-granted ways of writing and reading, about their disposition to writing and its effects, about the ways they structure language and the action it supports. It offers a range of tools to think with and practical strategies to try out. These are the detox essentials.
