ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the 15 minute mathematics test normed on a population of over 2500 students and adults from across the UK. Over 50 schools and colleges were involved in providing data. This 15 minute mathematics test is, like the other components of the protocol, optional. Its prime purpose is to assess the level at which the subject is working as compared to his/her peers. The 15 minute mathematics test covers a range of arithmetic and algebra tasks, but is primarily a test of arithmetic. The test is designed to make retrieval of basic facts less critical to the successful completion of every item. In other words the test is trying to examine procedures rather than a test of recall from memory of basic facts.
