ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, we start from the work of the 1972 Limits to Growth report to the Club of Rome to understand the history of resources and the dynamics of growth. The system dynamics approach is presented alongside the tools that are necessary to explore the World3 model of Limits to Growth. Thus, the World3 model is described first from a top-down perspective, highlighting the purpose of the model, the sub-sectors of the model and major feedback loops. Secondly, the review goes deeper to the 14 non-linear relationships that generate the behaviour of both growth and collapse in all World3 scenarios. This review is intended to be accessible by both experts and non-experts in computer modelling.
