ABSTRACT

Literature review methodology is a form of secondary research, and, as such, a study that uses this approach should fulfil the quality standards required of research in terms of being rigorous, systematic and free from bias. A good literature review enables the reader to easily see how everything in it fits together. A literature review being systematic is intrinsically linked with it achieving rigour, because if everything is planned and carried out in an orderly and methodical fashion, the study is more likely to be rigorous. Being rigorous, systematic and unbiased are important quality indicators in any research, including studies that use literature review methodology. The findings from a literature review indicate that all the papers reviewed show good evidence that supporting the parents of young people who are at risk of suicide is an important part of preventing teenage suicide.
