ABSTRACT

The manual is structured as a session-by-session treatment programme designed to improve sleep in people with psychotic disorders. The Therapist Manual refers to the relevant activities in the client resource pack. When a psychological intervention is being delivered, a structured format is most appropriate for clients with significant cognitive impairment and disorganisation. An assessment of how the client’s psychiatric symptoms and medications impact on their sleep is essential. Clients’ perceptions regarding their psychiatric illness can also provide important information on possible barriers to change. Prominent clinical features of disorders such as schizophrenia include negative symptoms that can lead to amotivation and a pattern of disengagement. The Therapist Manual contains the information and activities to illustrate particularly important issues. Throughout, ‘Therapist notes’ provide additional suggestions and information regarding treatment administration.
