ABSTRACT
John Oakland is Executive Chairman of Oakland Consulting plc and head of its Research and Education Division – the European Centre for Business Excellence. John is Emeritus Professor of Quality and Business Excellence at Leeds University Business School, a Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute and a Member of the American Society for Quality. Oakland’s early industrial career focused on research and development and production management. He holds a PhD, is a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, the Royal Society for the Arts and the Institute of Quality Assurance, Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Association of Quality Management Consultants and Member of the American Society of Quality Control. He is considered by many as the British guru of quality. His practice is internationally
based, and he has provided substantial support to the development of quality in the UK, particularly to the quality initiatives of the government. The approaches used by Oakland and his colleagues in Oakland Consulting plc are essentially pragmatic and have been used widely in organisations throughout the UK and Europe.
