ABSTRACT

As mentioned in the previous chapter, the Israeli authorities’ political strategies for Jerusalem have been expressed through an ongoing process of Judaisation of the eastern section of the city. In this regard, a pivotal role has been played by public housing: that is, by both housing constructed directly by the Ministry of Housing and housing built by other subjects (such as private developers) with substantial public support and financing.1

As I shall show in this chapter, over the decades several new neighbour - hoods for Jews have been built in East Jerusalem thanks to government funds and support. However, before focusing on the Holy City, it is worth outlining the political role of public housing in Israel.
