ABSTRACT

This vocational high school in the Fayette County Public School (FCPS) district opened in August 2011. The cost for the new 44,000-square-foot academic building was $234 per square foot. In addition to the academic building which was designed to perform at net zero energy, the 82-acre campus includes a 3,300-square-foot greenhouse and an unconditioned 21,500-square-foot barn and riding arena with roof-mounted PV panels (see Figure 11.1 and Box 11.1). This aerial view of the site shows the academic building flanked by the greenhouse to its south (bottom of photo) and the riding arena to the north (top of photo). The buildings are oriented along an east–west axis to maximize solar access from the south.
