ABSTRACT
To compile and edit a book of English, Scots, Irish or Yoruba folksongs is a comparatively straightforward task. Armed with tape-recorder and notebook the collector goes out and finds his singers, records them, transcribes the recordings, organises them according to this or that methodology, writes a commentary and (providing a sympathetic publisher can be found) the collection is eventually published under the title of English, Scots, Irish or Yoruba Folksongs.
