ABSTRACT
The following three-verse fragment obscures the story of two ill-starred lovers, a young servant and his employer’s daughter. Their plan to elope is discovered by the girl’s father, who intercepts them as they board ship at Belfast. The young man is arrested, jailed in County Tyrone and is finally sentenced to be transported for seven years. His sweetheart swears that she will wait for him.
