ABSTRACT

Change is a constant thing in the modern workplace and experience suggests that at times safety professionals are a little reluctant to embrace it. This chapter focuses on the role that safety professionals can play in the process as well as the opportunity to have a more open mind towards change, which will not only improve our mental well-being but, if exploited effectively, can help improve the organisation's safety performance and culture to boot. It considers the change management process. The chapter explores three such opportunities arising from different change management programmes: Validating an organisational change, a new team and supporting a change programme. There are a number of ways for safety professionals to show how useful their skills are in the change management process as well as ways to piggyback on wider change programmes to improve their organisation's safety culture and performance.
