ABSTRACT

'Three Months in Weimar' is an account worked up from the 'Recollections of Weimar' that George Eliot wrote in her Journal shortly after she and Lewes came to Berlin from Weimar in November, 1854. A comparison of the article with the Journal, part of which is published in Cross, Life, I, 333-349, shows that in revising her 'Recollections' for publication George Eliot did little more than rearrange her material and omit the personal references (most of which Cross, too, omitted in his selection from the Journal).
