ABSTRACT

This is quite a feature of Elizabethan texts. We find Domitian where Domitius is required (Ant. IV, 2, 1), answered instead of answerer (Lear III, 7, 42), concealed for concealing (ibid. III, 2, 58), doubly for doubled (R2 I, 1, 57) christened for christian (Oth. I, 1, 30), borrowed for borrowers (H4B II, 2, 125), coffer for coffin (Per. III, 4, 2), etc.
